Ports Privacy Policy
Effective date:
Ports is operated by Shane Jones Ltd., the data controller for support enquiries and other personal information it handles in connection with Ports.
For privacy questions, email [email protected] or use the Ports support form.
Information inspected on your Mac
Ports reads local network socket and process information to show port numbers, protocols, socket addresses, process names and IDs, local usernames, commands and connection states.
The current app keeps scan results in memory and stores preferences locally on your Mac. It does not send scan results to a developer-operated server. No developer-operated telemetry, advertising or analytics SDKs are implemented in the current app.
Optional external AI assistance
When you choose an AI action, Ports opens your browser with a prepared prompt containing the selected process and port details. These details can include usernames, network endpoints and commands. The recipient is OpenAI for ChatGPT, Anthropic for Claude, or Perplexity for Perplexity.
The prompt is included in the URL and can reach the provider as soon as your browser opens, before you press Send. Browser history or browser synchronisation may retain that URL. Commands may contain credentials or private paths. The current app does not provide a prompt preview or automatically redact this information. Check the selected details before choosing an AI action, and do not use it for information you do not want to share.
External AI is optional. Each provider controls its own retention, account settings and deletion tools, under its own terms and privacy policy:
- OpenAI privacy policy — ChatGPT.
- Anthropic privacy policy — Claude.
- Perplexity privacy notice — Perplexity.
Ports cannot delete information already shared with these services. Use the relevant provider’s deletion controls. External providers may process information internationally; consult their policies for locations and safeguards.
Copying information
Copy actions place selected diagnostic information on the system clipboard. Clipboard managers and cross-device clipboard features may retain or synchronise it. Consider those settings before copying sensitive information.
Support correspondence and this website
If you contact support, the information you submit is used to understand and respond to your enquiry. The Ports support form asks for your email address and message, with optional name, Ports version and macOS version. Include only the details needed for your Ports enquiry and remove secrets or personal information from diagnostics.
Support email is handled through [email protected] using Google Workspace. Support emails and replies are deleted once the enquiry is resolved. Submissions stored in Netlify Forms are cleared every three months. These are separate records: resolving an email enquiry does not immediately remove its Netlify form submission.
The Ports support form is configured for Netlify Forms. The shared website layout also includes Google Analytics and a newsletter embed from shane-jones.ck.page. These website services are separate from local scanning in the Ports app. See the website privacy policy and cookie policy for the site’s published information.
Privacy requests
Use the Ports support form to ask about information provided in support correspondence or to request access, correction or deletion. Identify your earlier enquiry without sending additional sensitive diagnostics. For information sent to an AI provider, contact that provider directly.
Legal review required: confirm applicable lawful bases, rights and complaint process for the planned worldwide launch, and any international transfers and safeguards for website and support services. Final wording must reflect the actual arrangements.
