So it's 2025, and many people seem to have a 2025 challenge of some form planned in.
I've been building mobile apps for many years, which I've always enjoyed aside outside of my main web development work.
I plan to create 12 mobile apps in 2025. I'll mainly focus on building apps that solve my problems, as others do. Some of the apps on my list are small, fun apps, and some are much larger apps that could become whole businesses based on how they could grow.
Monetisation
I plan to monetise my apps through small, unobtrusive ads, in-app purchases, and subscriptions.
Depending on the app, I may include a store / suggested products and link to some affiliate sites that align well with the app.
Marketing
App marketing for 12 will be one of the more significant hurdles I can overcome in this challenge. What drove the success of the Neverspoons app was the element of launching the right app at the right time.
Another factor was how viral it went on Twitter, which cannot be replicated anymore due to how engagement on Twitter has changed since 2020. I can see myself using a lot of influencer marketing here, as there's no chance you'll see me doing TikToks!
Finally my Goals
The goal is to generate a minimum of £25k in turnover from my mobile apps in 2025. I think this is a pretty achievable target looking at my revenue and traffic estimations.
Some of my apps will be not-for-profit, and I'll donate all profits to charity. There's a specific app that will make a lot of sense why it will be for charity when it is launched.
There may even be opportunities to have my apps acquired, which will also factor into the goal amount.
I would love to have a small portfolio of apps generating consistent MRR, but if an interested party offers the right price and gets me closer to my goal, a sale would be considered.
As a secondary target, I'd love to achieve 1 million installs of all Apple and Google apps combined. If I do, it would be a fantastic win.
